Hey just wanted to post this up, i have a 2009 v6 pathfinder 4x4 at 31k miles. A few days back i started her up to head to school and as i made the first corner....BANG! The differential crapped it self. I was able to get another diff from a junkyard and swapped it in pretty easily. Anyone else have differential failures on this model path? I was a week away from changing all the oils for : diffs, tranny and transfer case. Here are some pics of the after math. What do you guys thing ? BTW the path wasn't abused i do all maintenance myself, always warmed up before hitting the gas.

Only lasting 30k miles sounds like a manufacturing defect. Looks like a massive melt down. I didn't change the fluid in mine until around 75k miles and there wasn't much nastiness on the drain plug even. I've been on the boards here 4-5 years and I don't think I've ever heard of a rear diff going. I'm at 120k miles now with no problems and I'm not exactly easy on it. I'd say you were just unlucky about that one.

Won't the 5-year/60000 mile Powertrain warranty cover it?

I would contact Nissan Customer Service @ 1-800-NISSAN-1 and complain. Even though you are out of warranty, there are other ways they can help you, such as Goodwill warranty or even just by working with you at repairing it with a lower cost. Sometimes they'll cover the part if you cover the labor or split the repair bill 50/50. You might even try complaining to the Sales Manager or General Manager of the dealership. They know that a Nissan diff should last more than 30000 miles. Remember the saying, "Squeaky wheel gets the grease!"
