The Nissan Path

Background: Bought the 2005 pathfinder used in February. Transmission was replaced in March 2013. When driving over bumps there is a very loud squeak seeming to come from the gear shifter. When not running, the squeak cannot be recreated by pushing on any of the interior or by shaking the car. It also creaks and squeaks when accelerated from a stop with a similar sound - coming from the gear shifter.

When I put a jack under my transmission and raise it slightly, the sound is recreated. I took a video of this yesterday. You can hear me cranking up 3 times on the transmission and then releasing the pressure. Please give me your input or feedback as to what could be causing this sound. A loose connection under the car with the new transmission? Something I could get to under the gear shifter on the interior? Any similar situations and solutions?

Have you checked your engine/transmission mounts?

No I haven't. Transmission mounts sound like a good thing to investigate. Any info on them? Where are they located? Do they go bad every so often? Difficult to test or replace?

Though I don't think they're considered a "common failure" item on the Pathfinder, they do go bad depending on vehicle age and use. If you have a lead foot or tow often, the engine mounts do sustain quite a bit of stress. My only personal experience has been on my last car, a VW Jetta. At 150K miles I noticed a sound like in your video and excessive engine vibration through the body of the car. I replaced them all myself in a few hours and noticed a huge difference in overall feel of the car. Replacement is usually not technically difficult (provided the mounts are accessible) and involves replacing one mount at a time while supporting the weight of the engine/trans with a jack. The mounts themselves are not particularly expensive.
