0w40 or 10w40

Many of the early build Pathfinders, Xterra, and Frontier pick up trucks with the VQ40DE V6 engines were listed in the owners manual to run other oil weights other then 5w30. The early manuals listed I believe up to 10w40 as an option. Any of you here run 10w40 or 0w40 synthetic in your VQ40DE?
Personally I believe Nissan only recommends 5w30 in the later years like my 2012 for meeting fuel economy regs?

Nissan has recommended 5W30 in their engines for a very long time with the exception of the VG turbo engines, which they spec'd 10W30. The VQ engine is a very tight engine and I wouldn't go any heavier than 10W30, and personally, I stick with 5W30. Keep in mind the first number is a winter viscosity rating, so be it 0W30 or 10W30, once the oil is warmed up, they both have a viscosity rating of 30 weight.

Hm, my service manual recommends 5w-30 to 10w-40. I run the latter right now. It passes the anicdotal "my engine just runs smoother " test for what that's worth to you. I've been using that for quite sometime now. I would especially recommend it if you're in an area where a heat index over a 100 is a daily thing like where I'm at. But that's just me.

OP is from Mass. 5w30 would be my vote. After all, when was the last time you heard a case of engine oil failure in a non-racing application where the owner actually changed the oil at recommended intervals. Oil is one of the areas the marketers have been successful in convincing the general public to over analyze.

Yup, that's what I just did. Also from MA.
5w30 high mileage (186k on the clock) & call it done.
