I know on some late model GM V8's the PCV valve has a tendency to gum up and needs to be cleaned. Is this any kind of an issue on the VQ40DE V6? is this something I should be checking on a regular basis?

It's not really an issue on Nissans. It's located at the back of the passenger side valve cover. I replaced mine when I had my intake plenum off last time, which was around 150,000 miles, and it was fine. They usually only fail when there is insufficient oil changes and the oil gets sludged.

Having just changed mine on an 07 pathfinder with 105k, it had a little stickiness but still worked. And seemed better than the one in my LS1 after 20k. The Nissan engine doesn't have the "feature" GM v8s can where its on a downhill side of a hose, and all sorts of crud collect in it.

I just changed mine at 185k. Mostly to see if it would help my dismal mpg. It seemed fine. Just a touch gummed up from new.
