The Nissan Path

Yesterday my 03 was totaled, 172000 trouble free miles. I can't afford a new one and am looking at some 05 thur 07 that are in my price range (under $8000.00) Two seperate adds mentioned the computers. One said the computer was replaced the other said it had recently been reprogrammed. Are there known problems with these computers? What else should I be looking for in a good used one? thanks Tom aka docjones

The 05-and-later ECM's aren't going to work in a 2003 model.

I wasn't asking if one computer is comparable with a newer model I was asking if the newer models are know to have computer related problems or just computer problems.

Reprogramming is done when there is a software update to fix a problem, so that in itself is not an ECM problem. For example, some 2008 V6 Pathfinders had an issue with the lock-up at low speeds, so Nissan issued a TSB and an updated software program to fix the issue. Nissan ECM's, in general, don't really have many failures on the whole. Most of them are caused by water damage and corrosion, people cross jumping the battery or something shorting and causing damage to the ECM (for example, the IAC-AAC valve failures that fried so many ECM circuit boards on VQ35DE-equiped Maximas and Pathfinders).
The biggest issues with the 05-10 Pathfinders are the failing factory radiators that cause coolant contamination of the transmission fluid, resulting in a damaged automatic transmission, badly stamped upper timing chains that cut through the tensioner faces and cause a whining noise and bad fuel sending units.

OK, thanks. That is the kind of info I was looking for. My 03 was such a fantastic vehicle. One minor problem with the A/C blower that was fixed with a $5.00 part from a junk yard. 13 years and 172,000 miles. Great SUV. Thanks again.
