The Nissan Path

So the 05 path is getting a little long in the tooth. Time to decide whether to put some $$ into her, or just let her fall into the pit of despair.

We want to take a longer trip pulling the trailer with it this summer (possibly past moose jaw, sk), but I'm not sure how comfortable I am doing that, the path pulls this trailer well, I'm just not sure if I want to tempt a 7 or 8 hour trek one way with it.

That and with the age, obviously breakdowns are a much higher possibility. I thought I started hearing the dreaded timing chain guide sound on the engine in fall, but checked them and they seem to be fine. So all indications are everything is good, but at this age, I wanted to get a second opinion.

To make it easier to decide what to do, I decided to do oil analysis on both the engine and transmission, which is now well over 290000km. I kind of suspected, but both reports came back extremely positive. I've attached them here.

While I was at it, I also did the analysis on the engine oil for the 2010 Rogue. Also came back with flying colours.

Total cost was a little steep, at $128 canadian + $20 tracked shipping. But I figure thats like what, 1 hour of dealer shop time? Not that I would take it to the dealer, but you know what I mean.

Wow everything looks great! Your wear on the Pathy VQ40 looks quite low just don't know what else to say.

Gotta say, those results are pretty good! Love the comments that they left for you too.

Is the transmission original?

Yes all original hardware.

I bypassed my trans cooler shortly after getting the pathy in 2008. Only recently re-hooked it up, when I replaced the radiator due to it failing.

Ya know disallow looking over your UOA again for both motor and trans I am not so sure I would be so quick to trade that truck in.

I think I would look over other things close like U-Joints, exhaust, brakes, etc and keep her .. Just my opinion.

Yeah I think this is the push we needed. I will start a new thread, but here are the things that we think we will do:

1. Hail claims - I have 2 hail claims open on this vehicle. Hood damage and front fender. $400 deductible.

2. Rear Quarter and liftgate rust - Needs new metal welded in and painting. $1500.

3. Wet Sand and Clear coat - to make her look new again! $500

4. Front Struts - I have these already, just want to put them in.

5. Replace 7 pin harness and touch up rusty hitch receiver - $50.

6. Interior fix up and cleaning/detailing - $200

7. Exhaust - not sure of everything I want to do here yet. For sure the y-pipe (restrictive) and the final exhaust pipe (damaged) But I also have the P0420 and P0430 codes. So it will be decision time as to whether I replace the cats, or remove/hollow them out and use antifoulers on the secondary sensors to get rid of the code. this is anywhere from $500 - 1500.

8. Obligatory bi-annual windshield replacement - the joys of rural life with gravel roads - $200 deductible.

Everything else is in pretty decent shape on this rig. Any thoughts on the above?

Find some small shop to fix your rust and paint I have a guy I found who is extremely fair and is also a great fix anything guy. I would think you could get that tailgate fixed for less or buy a used one at a junkyard in better shape then yours and have it painted?

Don't throw out your steel attachment point for your 7 pin harness my R51 did not come with one and you can't buy it separate you have to buy the entire kit and even then the three kits I ordered it was missing! I had to make one out of steel.

It looks like you have it covered though and let's face it what you listed is so much cheaper then a new truck! Any trucks that are available with the capability of the R51 are just two darn expensive!
