Hi

I got a question to the experienced ones here... I got a 2012 pathfinder which only has 40.000KM on it, i'm the second owner of this car, so far it has been a great ride. I want your guys recommendation on the ATF fluid change intervals ?, so far the ATF fluid has never been changed since it came out of the factory.

Thanks in advance

Marvin

Nissan doesn't really give an replacement interval; they say "inspect" at every 15,000 miles. It's synthetic ATF, so it'll last a lot longer than conventional. If the vehicle is not used for towing, it'll go 100,000 miles without a problem, however, most aren't comfortable going that far. If you do a lot of heavy towing, I would recommend a drain & fill every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. I don't tow, but perform a drain & fill every 60,000 miles; others do it at 30,000 miles intervals, which is what Nissan used to recommend "back when" in the days of conventional ATF use.
As far as fluid, you can pay the $9/quart for NissanMatic "S" ATF, if you want, which is actually made by Castrol. Most aftermarket sythetics will work, however; just make sure they state they are recommended for NissanMatic Type "J" or "S" applications. Two popular options are Castrol Transmax Multi-import ATF and Valvoline Maxlife Full-synthetic ATF, which I've used for years and can be found in gallon jugs for $17 at Walmart. A typical drain & fill takes about a gallon, so it works out perfect. The drain plug washer is Nissan P/N 11026-01M02.
