high oil pressure

2005 SE 4x4
noticed the other day that my oil pressure gauge is at its absolute max when i am driving, and just barely below it when idling. typically the arrow is smack in the middle when idling, and never at max even when driving. the temp is exactly where it always is and engine warning light is not on. i can take it immediately to the dealer, but hate their pricing (not to mention my lack of trust). on the other hand, my local trustworthy mom-and-pop joint is always busy, so i would need to wait at least four days for an opening. any suggestions? is where something simple that perhaps even i can do? thanks!

Replace the oil pressure sensor with Nissan P/N 25070-CD00A. It's a common problem. It's on the passenger side of the engine block and can be accessed from the passenger front wheel well. You'll need to remove the wheel and "may" need to remove the plastic wheel well liner.

thanks, smj999smj. is there a reason why engine light does not come on for this type of failure? i am just curious since i came on in the past when other sensors failed.

also, what are the chances that its not a faulty sensor, and how can i check?

thanks!

The oil pressure sensor does not fall under ECM management, so there is no code that triggers for it. With the vast number of similar failures that have occurred on 2005-2006 Pathfinders, Xterras and Frontiers caused by a faulty oil pressure sensor, I wouldn't bother doing any testing and would just replace the sensor, as suggested. If you want to beat yourself up doing circuit checks, than refer the factory service manual for your vehicle. Nico Club's site has downloadable service manuals at their site.
