IIRC in summer I was getting somewhere near 18-20 MPG (US Gal) or 12L/100km.

Now in winter I get 13-15 MPG, or 17L/100km.

80% hwy, 20% city. no sitting in traffic, minimal use of 4wd. Tires all inflated to 40ish.

Understandably, its bloody cold here (gets down to below -40C/F, and no that doesn't include the windchill. only wusses include the windchill).

But is a 15-20% difference reasonable? Anyone think I have a problem here?

I was thinking maybe damming off the openings in the grill with some cardboard would help the engine maintain operating temp, but that would be ugly. Any other ideas?

That's normal. I've heard gasoline has additives during the winter to prevent the fuel from freezing.

Actually this is quite normal. Had a Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0L that had just about every bolt-on available and a 3" lift. I got around 18-20 MPG in the summer which would drop to under 15-16 MPG in the winter.

You wouldn't happen to be letting the vehicle warm up in the driveway during the winter would you? Obviously that's going to sink your MPG reading.

Interesting, that some of you are getting less MPG in the winter as to what you get in the summer time. I check my gas mileage every time I fill up and have never notice a difference on any of my cars or SUV's. Can't say for sure if this is going to hold true with the PF as I have only had it since Oct 2012. With summer coming on fast (already hitting low 80's, moving up fast) it will be interesting to see if the PF gas mileage goes up. As of now, I'm getting 18-19 MPG around town and 20-21 on the Hwy. Taking the drive from my house in Lancaster, CA to mom's house in Huntington Beach, CA, a 109 miles each way, I get 27 MPG going to her house and 21 to 21.5 MPG driving back from mom's house. I like the down hill MPG (3100 feet to 10 feet above sea level) better of but the up is not bad either. Compared the up hill MPG to my son's 2013 Rava 4 (4 banger) to the PF, the Rava 4 did 23.3 MPG compared to the PF 21.4. Both car were topped off in Huntington Beach, CA and then top off again the next day in Lancaster, CA. I think the PF did pretty good compared to a 4 cylinder car. Of course I wouldn't mind getting 45 plus MPG out of the PF but that just not going to happen any time soon.

Winter gas gets bad mileage. As soon as they switch to the summer formulation, I always noticed a 3-5% increase.

Southern California winter is just SLIGHTLY different than the rest of the states/canada I doubt you're seeing much change in mileage from the minimal cold weather and California gasoline is a totally different blend than the rest of the country. Most other areas end up with a winter blend that's not as fuel efficient. Ours switched over about a month ago and I immediately had a 1-2mpg jump in mileage. My average was pretty much locked in on 18.5mpg all winter and now showing 19.8 the last couple weeks.

Well should have known the we were special here in CA. Anyway I'm pretty happy with the MPG the PF is getting for the power under the hood. Can't wait to see how it does towing on our next camping trip.

Agree. Considering how well it performs, the mpg is quite impressive. I've owned several V8 trucks/SUV's that didn't perform as well and returned a lot lower mpg.

Had my Pathfinder for a little over a month now and seem to be getting ~16 mpg from the V8. This is a mix of city and hwy with the bulk of the hwy coming during morning and evening rush hour where it's typically a good amount of stop-and-go.

don't do any kind of upgrades and you should stay in that range...

lift....tires...etc...and you'll be down in the 12-14 range like the rest of us

This is true.

Best I ever got stock was 16.8 I believe. Lift and 295 65's will do that to you. It's common for the V8, Titan guys have it even worse from what I've read.

And this LE I'm sure is one of the heaviest out there. Every single option ... except for tow hooks.
