So I see that K&N makes a few different intakes for the VQ40. Does anyone now the difference between the FIPK and the 66 Series?

PS, I also just wanted to get a theard in this section.

I think the only difference is the tube. I think you mean the 63 series and 77 series. The 77 has a continuous round tube, where the 63 goes small to big.

By the way, good idea starting a thread in here. I think the supercharger mod should have been in here too. That was the Mod, so he makes the rules.

I mean what I stated. There is a FIPK, 77, and 63 series. THe FIPK and the 63 series look identical.

Composite VS Aluminum, in theory the composite would resist heat from the engine bay where as the aluminum although more "effective" than stock will still pick up heat from the bay... you can also look at dyno charts on www.KNfilters.com.
the 77 only gives you 11hp (at 5200rpm) but it gives it to a 2-3hp benefit starting at 1800rpm
The 57 giver 14hp (at 5075rpm) but doesn't improve anything untill 3700 rpms but kicks in with a 10hp gain, funny thing on K&Ns site the 57 series dyno dropped the data before 3300rpms.

No info on a 63 series on K&N's site
the 57 is the FIPK btw

I should have went to the K&N site first. Here is the answer I was looking for.

Our 63 Series Air Intake Kits (AirCharger's) are a sister product to our 57 Series FIPK's. They enjoy a faster speed to market than our 57 Series kits due to their pending CARB status.

i just installed my FIPK kit yesterday afternoon.

took about an hour - working slowly and double checking all the directions. There were a couple of items that were missed in K&N's directions (eg. the stock airbox has 3 bolts that hold it down - not one. also, reuse the hose clips that go from the K&N tube to the valve cover). All in all, it fits very well and is solid.

There's noticeable increse in power & definitely and increase in sound. When the throttle goes wide open, it howls like a bat-outta-hell.

I've also got a Gibsons s&s exhaust to install when my buddy's hoist is free. So I hope that I'll get even more power w/that.
