Timing Chain Question

Hey All,

Been reading in here for quite a bit since I bought my 2009 Pathfinder and I'm wondering if I should replace my Timing Chains, preemptively? It has 116000 miles on it and Runs like a top but, I'm just wondering if it's something I should do before something breaks, along with the tensioners, and guides inside, etc.

Thoughts??

Thanks all.

If it's not making noise, leave it alone. The problem occurred because of poorly stamped upper chain links caused by worn tooling. So, not all 05-10 VQ40DE's will encounter an issue with the upper chains cutting into the plastic tensioner faces and, if they do, the amount of wear on the tooling will dictate when it will create an issue. Some people have had the issue occur as low as 30,000 miles while others have had it occur well over 100,000 miles. It happened on both of my Pathfinders; it occurred at around 80,000 miles on my 06 and at 140,000 on my 08. The infamous chain "whine" will let you know if you need to take action!

Ohh trust me when you have it you'll know.

I replaced mine and at first it seemed daunting and nearly impossible but once I got into it and got it done it's easily a weekend job if you take your time and nap occasionally. ðŸ‘

After I replaced mine I realized that I have an electric cooling fan. Hadn't heard it in a year!

Thanks All!

I figure when it starts to whine I'll get my hands dirty and get after it! I've got a second vehicle, so I can take my time, when it comes to it!!!

I was actually shocked that I have an Electric fan and Clutch fan. Talk about cooling!!!
