Pathfinder hard to engage gear

Hello fellow Pathfinder owners
I have a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder 2.5 Tekna DCI. I am having a hard time changing gear from reverse to drive to parking to neutral. When I press the release button on the knob it really hard to engage gear. I have to press down the button located next to the gear lever for a gear to engage. Talked to my mechanic he tells me that I need to change some solenoid. Has someone experienced such?
