P0430 and my fix

I don’t have any ground breaking information to add. This is more of a historical searchable entry with all the information in one spot. I bought the OEMTOOLS brand offset crowsfoot 1/2” drive O2 sensor socket (p/n 25249) to remove my sensor. My line wrench was slipping for some reason so I figured I’d get one and it popped right off w/no effort. Dorman 42002 Spark Plug Non-Foulers to space the sensor back. They also have the 42009 which appears to be the same except it comes with compression gaskets. You will need a 9/16” or 5/8” drill bit to hollow out the spacer. I would go with the 5/8” if I do it again. The largest bit I had was 1/2” and I needed to wallow it out a bit more to get the stock sensor to fit.

A little bit of anti-seize, bolt it all back up, clear the code and a few weeks and several hundred miles later and the code has subsided for now.

I had the same code the kept triggering on my 06. I found an actual oxygen sensor spacer on Amazon for around $6. No drilling needed; just remove the sensor and install the spacer then reinstall the sensor. It's been working for 3 years with no issues.

Do you have a link to the O2 Spacers on Amazon?

They don't have the exact same brand as I purchased, but these are practically the same:

I purchased a pair of sensor extensions. I did bank two since it had been throwing a PO430 for a very long time. Glad to report its been a week and no more CEL :D
I bought these and fitted perfectly with no modifications, plug and play

What I found with these types of modifications is that extensions that work for someone may not work for someone else hence why the extensions all come in different lengths and bends. It gets pretty pricy after a while and your best option would have just to replace the bad o2 sensors to begin with if the first set of o2 extensions didn't work out for you. I've been through this whole ordeal before.

The sensor extensions aren't used as a fix for faulty oxygen sensors; they are used in cases where the upstream catalytic converter has become inefficient and triggering catalyst efficiency codes. It's a way of "tricking" the ECM by pulling the element of the sensor partially out of the exhaust stream. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't....but if it does, it's a whole lot cheaper than a new converter!

Understood, I've been modifying cars for almost 2 decades and we'd use these extension when we went straight piped our exhaust systems on our vehicles to fool the ecu. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't.
