Engine failure - Advice?

Hi all,

Yesterday my trusty pathfinder suffered a pretty bad engine failure. Blew the dipstick out along with a bunch of oil, along with a pretty significant loss in power.
Ive dropped the remainder of the oil (3.5l) and replaced it.
Engine then started and seemed to be running on 3 cylinders. the engine did idle but shaking about. When it was running I removed the dipstick and there was pulsatile gas coming out - presumably blow by?
Ive been told that a failed injector can cut a hole in the piston and cause this. Do you think this is what has happened? Any other ideas?
At this stage im looking to buy a wrecked vehicle for a donor engine.

Some videos of it running

Thanks for any assistance!
Regards,
Mike

Is that a 2.5L 4?

Those are harder to come by, but they are out there, but look a bit pricey.

car-part.com gives you an idea.

Mike,

what was the ultimate outcome of this?
Successful swap?

Hey yea I got the replacement engine in and its mostly going well. New injectors, new cam chain and some parts swapped over from my old engine.

Found the fault in the old engine, was a crack and a hole in piston number 3. See attached pic.

New engine has a little rattle when its cold. Still tracking that down and also I have a plug in the loom that I cant find a place for. Might be an extra?

Yes you can :)
Look at the bottom on the square after you open the response boc for typing.
There is a tab "attachments"
Click on "add files" to upload files
It even gives u the option of "inline" ( so they show up inside the post) or as pure attachments.
I recommend inline
Please give those pics another shot we want to see. :D

PS: I am glad it worked out! :)

Na, I do that and get an error showing up with a yellow triangle under status. Click on it and I get "Could not upload attachment to ./files/168162_6ff43a1a4c417666e61437dae26df4e2"

Hmm,

I just was also unable to attach files.
We recently had to restore the forum software after a shutdown perhaps not everything got enabled properly again :?
