Anyone know how to clear the "service engine soon"

Hey all, I put a lower octane gas into my 07 pathfinder and then the "service engine soon" light came on. Its not flashing, its just there. I know there is a process to clear the code but can't seem to find it anywhere.

Check that your gas cap is on all the way and clicks a couple of times. The light should go out after using the vehicle for some time, might take a few starts.

Yeah when I got home I opened the cap and then closed it and clicked it 4 times or so. I didn't drive it after that though. Will try tomorrow.

I thought it was a specific number of starting cycles, 4 IIRC, as opposed to a flat driving time to clear the Evap CEL related to the gas cap?
At any rate most local auto parts stores will scan and erase the codes for you for free also and you *may* be able to clear the codes by disconnecting the battery for 20+ minutes if that trick still works. I'm unsure about the last one because I've never had to do it on the Path.

Yeah, after tightening the cap for me it takes several starts, if not a full tank of gas to get rid of the code. It's damn temperamental.

Yeah my wife drove it this morning and the light is still on. We just purchased our Pathfinder on Friday, Its an 07 SE imported from the states. We bought it at a nissan dealer so warranty is still valid. I am going to take it in on Monday for them to clear this code and check it out.

As was already stated, probably the gas cap issue.
I won't worry about using a lower octane of gas -- I use anything from 87-94 depending on how generous I feel at the pump that day and have had no problems (including heavy towing, in high heat, with 87).

Yeah the light finally went off the other day. Probably the gas cap issue.
