Valves mecanism: hydraulic or not ? automatic adjust or not?

Hi,
I would like to know if the valve mecanism is hydrolic or not.
And if not, is it recommanded to perform an valve adjustement sometimes or maybe it's automatic?

Hydraulic, no doubt, and that added to the timing chain makes the guts of the motor quite maintenance free.

Oddly enough, the VQ's uses a shim style tappet. However, Nissan says that adjustment should only be made if valve noise increases. I have a VQ30 in my Maxima with 142k and the valve are still quiet. I doubt they'd ever need to be adjusted.

I dont know what sort of bad noise valves could do... but, I'am wondering...juste because of my LPG converted VQ40..

I stand totally corrected, they are solid lifters. Wow, funky. Look on
EM-84 for a description of checking valve lifter clearances.

Yea, dont worry about them ... they will usualy last the life of the vehicle ... unless you never change oil ... My Altima had 190K and had never been done ... I checked them once around 170K when I replaced my valve cover and they were fine .... I did have to do them on my Race motor , only because I had regrind cams .... it was a SERIOUS pain in the butt !!! Special tools, mathematical Calculations , having to remove cams to get the shims out ... arg ... then paying $10 per shim and having to wait a week to special order them ....

What brand of top oiler did you install Manu and what type of oil do you use with these. How often do you have to fill the bottle? Do these have long term bad effect on catalytic converters? Thanks.
