When is a good time to change the serpentine belt?
I have 72000km+ on the engine with minor squeaking.

I would go ahead and do it now, before it really gets cold out.

Do the tensioner and belt. the tensioner is the weak point not just the old belt there is a kit $70 gets you a belt and tensioner well worth it.

Yes it's for an Xterra but it'll be pretty damn similar for our Paths

Just did mine tonight - tensioner looked good so only replaced belt for now.
Looked pretty bad, imo --- what do you guys think?
(obviously you can tell which is the new one vs old one)

Make sure to replace with a Nissan belt. I had napa/autozone/etc. belts and they would squeal when damp. OEM nissan belt has been silent.

ya, i didn't go with oem nissan one. i didn't go cheapest one either. it was mid range price at local auto parts store. there isn't a nissan dealership all that close to me, so it's not always the most feasible option for me.
Dayco Polyrib PIII serp belt(about $27). It had a 3yr warranty vs the others in the 10$-18$ range which were only 1yr warranty
(ya i know that means shit when your belt breaks & destroys stuff)

99% of the time I try and go OEM Nissan parts...but I needed one on a Saturday and NAPA was the closest. $29 and it doesnt squeal or anything else.

Mine just started making noise that comes from the alternator/pwr steering area. Sounds to me more like a bearing, but could the belt be doing this, too?
We have been getting a lot of rain and have been using the headlights a lot, tho. 83K miles
Edit: Just did a search (should have done it before this post) and seems others have had this same exact noise in the same area and it was alt pulley alignment per a TSB for 2005-07. Thanks to all on the forum.

You will be fine with the Dayco belt. Many aftermarket compaines meet or exceed OEM quality on products.
