Rhetorical oil change question...

Why the hell would Nissan put the drain hole a good 1/2 an inch above the bottom of the pan? Is it just me, or is there going to be like a whole cup of old oil in my oil pan when the thing is done dripping? Silly bastids

Although, I do like the little access cover and oil drip "ramp" for the oil filter. :)

Of course, do this before you start draining the oil.

I've always thought the access cover for the filter is too small...

just my opinion, its more easier to take off the skid plate than try and fish out the hot, leaky oil filter through the access provided.

I pull my skid plate off when i do my oil change. Just not worth the mess. i don't have hands small enough.

I have huge hands. I don't drop the skid plate. I do reach around the side of the skid plate on the passenger side of the vehicle, and have 0 issues with clearance to get the oil filter out.

i do it this way too... but the problem i have is that oil doesn't drip onto that little catch tray. instead it spills onto the top of the skid plate... which i then have to clean up with a towel.

Stupid spot for the oil filter - agreed. I just use a freezer bag when taking it off. Takes an extra min or two, but I can catch most of the oil w/o making too much of a mess

Agreed. I have always employed jack stands when changing the oil on any of my vehicles. This is better than the dealer lift or your standard quick lube shop where the vehicle is level. The front being lifted higher than the rear ensures proper drainage of all the old oil.

FYI, anyone looking for Mobil 1 bookmark the following. There is hardly a day when they aren't offering some rebate or coupon and the other major brands do the same.
