2007
38k miles (we hardly use her)
Its random, sometimes in small incline, flat surface, cold or hot. It shifts smooth, jsut that ONE BIG CLUNK from park to drive, but than after that shes fine.

Mine will do that pretty much all the time, but it seems like there is some sort of incline involved everywhere I park. It doesn't take much of a roll after shutting off the engine to get the transmission to the point that it will make that "clunk" when then shifting into D. And this is coming from someone who always uses the parking/e-brake. Sometimes the clunk is really bad, but that is usually on fairly steep inclines.

I too have this as well. Only 34k on my 08. I've tried using the e-brake/parking Brake but same thing. Not sure exactly what this is either.

Mine make a cling noise after i have put the car in drive and started moving. sounds like it is coming from behind the transmission. The transmission changes fine and no obvious problems with car. I only hear it after the car has being sitting for a while and it only makes the noise once than i don't hear it again unless i stop turn the car off and let it sit. It drives me crazy cause i can't seem to pin point it? Any help would be appreciated.

This has been discussed before and if memory serves me well, seems it has to do with the ABS doing a system check. Mine does it as you hit 5-10 MPH after sitting for a while. Normal.

Thank you for your reply! After reading i googled the noise and found it to be normal. It only came up on Frontier forums but the concept is the same. I will now no longer worry about it and found myself today not paying attention to it as i did in the past.

My 05 makes the noise sometimes, but not very often. My son's 05 Frontier makes a clunk all the time.
