My 07 pathfinder is in dire need of a belt replacement but also noticed quite a bit of play in the tensioner and tensioner bolt. Should I go ahead and buy the tensioner also? What do these usually cost?
I also started noticing this morning that my heater is not blowing warm air at idle. I just had the coolant changed not to long ago. Any specific coolant type I should buy to use to top off?

Is it worth replacing tensioner while the belt is off? I plan to take it to someone for the work. Did you do it yourself? How was the job?

the tensioner should prob be easy to do with the top covers off the engine while you change the belt. The belt was sort of a pain but i have big hands.

Just had the belt & tensioner replaced 5 wk ago. Even tho I replaced the tensioner with a non-Nissan one a yr ago, they said there was an updated one. Not sure if the dealer was just yanking me around but the new one is $39.23 & the belt was $23.20. Since other work was done, I think the labor charge was 1.5 hr.
For what it is worth, that non-Nissan 1 yr old belt cost me a lot in the long run, since I had done the previous work myself & couldn't imagine it failed that soon when other noises around the alt appeared.

I just got quoted by Nissan parts department $24 for the belt and $63 for the tensioner. Is there somewhere else I should look local like advanced for thee tensioner? I'm still not sure if its recommended that I get the tensioner done also. Again it appears to have some play in it

Auto zone has a duralast tensioner for $20, will the oem Nissan belt work with this or am I better off buying the $60 Nissan tensioner?

BTW: there is a Nissan Techincal Service Bulletin re: belt/tensioner/pulley alignment

use the same coolant that is in your system
for a minor top-off, distilled water would be OK

Do I need a new bolt? Looks like I will have to pass ordering online as shipping will b too far along with my work schedule. Local Nissan dealership has parts minus the tensioner bolt and said they never sell it as the factory one is reused. Sound correct?

I've had a '05 and now I own a '08. Both have had squealing belt problems. They told me at the dealership that they had a new tensioner fix, but it never helped. The only fix that worked on both vehicles was just buy a OEM belt from the dealer. Changing the belt is easy, about a twenty minute job with no experience (5 min with practice). The tensioner even having big hands isn't that bad. You do have to remove the fan blades, but that's not hard. About the only tools you need is a 10mm socket and a pair of plyers. With the 05 I changed both in a half hour.

Replacing the tensioner and belt is the fix if the pulley alignment is correct. If it's not in alignment, you will need to follow the TSB instructions and correct the alignment along with replacing the parts.
