Oil pressure gauge question

I am pretty sure, from reading posts here thst I have a faulty "Oil Pressure Sending unit", because my Oil Pressure Gauge is pegged out at the "High" end.

Does that sound correct?

My question is, if I have some sort of Oil Pressure failure, will an "Oil" light or "Check Engine" light come on, even if the gauge (Oil Pressure Sending Unit) is faulty?

I know I need to go ahead and replace the part, but I want to know that in the meantime something else will warn me if I have some sort of Oil Pressure failure.

From the other post, it's an 05.

So. With that out of the way, does it ever lower to a lower region of the gauge, as in when at idle?

No, it never does. It goes from off to full "High" upon start.

And you are correct, it is an 05'.

ok, so you do have a functional gauge, or at least should have one. It definitely sounds faulty.

As far as I know, you wouldn't get a fault light unless it is functioning properly. It's worth the peace of mind having it working properly. Changed mine out when I got it and haven't had a problem or concern since.

This is a common problem on 05-06 R51's due to a faulty oil pressure sending unit, located on the passenger side of the engine block.

Same issue on my 05. Rockauto sells a replacement sending unit for ~$50. Takes 30 seconds to install.

But do you think I've done it yet? Or even ordered it? Ha!

Looking on rock auto, would this be the part?

The wife's Pathy has this issue. I bought a new sensor from O'Rielly's for less than $20.

Anyone got a pic of the exact location? Or is it THAT obvious where it is once I get under there to replace?

It's toward the front of the passenger, or right, side of the block. I find it easiest to see looking through the wheel well.

Yes thats the one. I think they have 2 different ones (different suppliers) that should work.

For anyone with an 06+, keep in mind that the part is different (2 wire instead of 3)...
