The Nissan Path

Searched the threads and this code looks to be pretty generic in that it. Could be gas cap, O2, cat just to name a few.

Pathy is a 2006 97k and does seem to occasionally run a little rough when stopped at lights. Power seems fine. Tried the simple of making sure gas cap is tight.

What's the consensus on next step? O2 pre/post cat or cat replacement?

So I'm guessing by the lack of response that everyone has either moved onto the next gen truck, or the solution(s) are somewhat random

Not everyone is available to answer questions 24-7. I do what I can, but I'm also a moderator at NissanForums.com and sometimes answer questions on Jonko's website and NissanHelp.com. I also work 12 hour shifts, five days at a time and have a second job, so I don't always catch every question. I'm sure there are many other members in similar situations, so, one can understand if a question sometimes slips through the cracks, so to speak.

The most likely cause of a P0430 code is an inefficient upstream (or front) catalytic converter on the left side of the vehicle. Usually when an oxygen sensor is at fault, there is also a stored DTC for the oxygen sensor, or a leak in the exhaust near the sensor. Testing for the cause would involve scantool monitoring the rich-lean cycles of the front O2 sensor, Bank 2, and comparing it to the cycles of the reat O2 sensor, Bank 2. There should be an approximate ratio of 2:1, respectively. Rough idle is pretty common on the R51's. Sometimes performing an idle air volume relearn helps. Bad motor mounts has also been an issue for roughness at stops.

got the same code on Saturday, took it to the dealership and they replaced the driver side front catalytic converter. no SES since.

Thanks for the replies. By no means do I expect an immediate answer just guess Ive been spoiled in the past on this site. Used to get multiple responses in a day and after a couple days nothing so figured I'd stoke the fire a bit.

Forgot to ask. Will a bad O2 throw a specific code?

In my experience with the P0430 code, I asked the service guy if they also replaced the O2 sensor and he said no. All they replaced was the cat.

There are several O2 sensor codes, depending on the type of failure and the location of the sensor. It is possible for a faulty O2 sensor to not set a trouble code, but most of the time they will.

I just got the P0430 code. Bad Catalytic Converter Bank 2. The dealership replaced the CAT. I only have 71k on my '05 Pathy so the $2500 charge was covered under warranty.

I know this is an old thread, but I need some advice. I have the P0430 code, but I do not think it is my cat. My reasoning is based on my O2 sensor readings. If I am correct, sensor 1 is before the first cat and sensor 2 is after. With the car engine off or at idle, sensors 1 and 2 on bank 1 both read 0.3 V. On bank 2, sensor 2 also reads 0.3 V, but sensor 1 reads 0.6 V. Similarly, as I drive the vehicle, sensor 1 on bank 2 always reads much higher than all the other sensors (and it is the only sensor that exceeds a reading of 1V). The post cat sensors on both banks always have similar numbers. Am I correct to assume my pre-cat sensor is faulty?
