best mileage for V8 Pathy?

i took a 3-day business trip to MD this week and got 18.3mpg. the trip was 98% highway driving and i drove around 75-80mph. the mileage gauge was pretty accurate too stating 18.1mpg. my 4Runner was usually off by 2mpg, so this was a nice 'surprise' to see the gauge being fairly accurate.
my normal commute to work though only brings 14-15mpg but i drive the truck pretty hard...
anyway, i don't think 18.3mpg is too bad considering my V8 T4R returned about the same mpg when driving the same speed and it had a smaller engine (4.7L vs 5.6L).
on a side note... the V8 in these trucks is a beaut on the highway... talk about effortless power. i love it!

Did you re-set the MPG on the trip computer? It's an averaging calculation, so unless you reset it, it's digesting ALL your driving since the most recent re-set. I have an '06 V-6 2WD LE, and I'm consistently at 15-16 City / 20-21 Hwy.

I went on a little bit of a joy ride with the Girl and the pooch yesterday, about 300 or so miles through western MA up to Bennington VT and back hopping to State parks and a microbrewery or 2. With 4x4, the OME, and 31.6" tires speeds ranging from 40-70mph with a few sprints to 85mph to put some distance between some of the mo-mo's out there and myself. I managed 20mpg. I'd say except for the final say 100 miles (taking "The Pike" from Lee MA to 91S and that to central CT) all of it was back roads through the Berkshires. I won't lie, it took allot of discipline but if I could have kept the speeds between 45-55mph I've gotten 23mph. You guys a re making me feel alot worse about the V8 option not being available in 05. Well with the Titan as we know it going the way of the dodo in favor of some POS built off the new Ram odds are the 5.6 might go bye bye as well. Lets keep our fingers crossed that the new Unit Body Path may get the 5.0 V8 from the 09 FX50.

How are all of you calculating your mileage? Are you just looking at the dash readout, or are you manually running the numbers? Also, has everyone verified that their speedo's are true? I'm only asking because on some long downmountain stretches, I've seen my MPG readout shoot up to 28, but when all is said and done, I've never seen more than 21mpg on my V6.

<- Digital readout from dash.. While the mpg can vary greatly when you FIRST set this button, eventually it'll settle in and grab an avg.
I'm sure my mileage will change on the way home, unless maybe I tailgate an 18 wheeler..

I just use the dash read out. I have a V6 also.
Last summer I drove to North Carolina from Texas and averaged 26 mpg from Austin to Dallas. From Dallas to Tenn the average dropped to about 24. Even thru the Rocky mountains I got about 22.

If you can remember, try writing down numbers when you fill up the next few times & do a manual calculation. What size tires are you running?

I'll likely get stomped for still not doing a road check confirming what the MPG readout shows but it's still telling about 26 mpg freeway/city driving and about 24 mpg highway at about 60 to 65 mph.
Stock General Grabber 245/75R16 tires at max sidewall pressure of 44 psi with about half of the front rad area 'grill blocked'.
I have to do about a 200K run this weekend and it's going to be mixed roads but may show something.
I'll post a few pics of the local Rocky Mountains if nothing else.
