Plastic engine cover

Other than to keep mud off of the top of the engine I was wondering what other purpose the top plastic engine cover might serve. Do others think that by leaving the cover off, the engine may dissipate heat better during summer driving, towing, etc. Thanks.

Mine was removed the day I brought it home ... I figured it would just keep engine heat on the intake manifold .....

I HATE those covers ... some cars its a 10 minute operation to get them off ...

It's mostly for looks and to protect the wiring to the coils. The designers think people don't like to see the actual engine. It might scare them.

Thanks fellows, the engine cover is now hanging on the garage wall. :)

With the amount of screens and front covers on this truck the engine well doesn't get a lot of dirt or mud coming in there anyway.
