So as you guys all know already there's no aftermarket headlight for the r51 past 2010 but I was just wondering if anyone knows exactly what's different between before and after the facelift that makes them not compatible.

The facelift was done in 2008 to accommodate the V8 option made available that year. The nose was extended 3 inches, which gives the front end, including the head lamps, a steeper rake. Spyder lists an option for the later R51:

If it fits 2011, then it should also fit 2012. They used the same headlamps.

Eh, I just checked. It's just the same as the stock headlights only in black. Not really an upgrade. I was hoping for some projectors

For projectors, you'll need to send your originals or another set of stock lamps out and have them installed into the stock housings. It can get a bit expensive that way!

For aftermarket headlamps, its always a good idea to re-seal the housing/lens with clear silicone. Just a extremely thin layer will work. The reason I say this is because the quality of the headlamps coming from China will vary in quality in how well they're assembled. This is simply to avoid moisture from getting in.
