Cracking static noise in right rear speaker even when radio

I am getting a loud cracking static noise from the right rear door speaker both when the radio is on and off. At first I thought it was related to my aux input but it is not. Even when I change the balance to left it remains.
My gut tells me it's a loose connection at the speaker. Any other suggestions?
