Rear hatch will not open and it is an issue.

Unlocking the doors there is no sound back there but the glass unlocking. The manual release doesn't release the hatch either. When the open button is pushed the cinch motor does run a bit and the mechanism moves but the hatch still won't open. I have a new (used) latch mechanism but I can't replace it without being able to open the hatch.

Almost seems like it is welded shut, and no amount of penetrating oil has yet to get it to open.

Is this just the glass in the hatch or the entire hatch.
I had this happen to me before a few years back.

I am struggling to recall how it was solved but ultimately it was something stuck in the mechanism.
There is a way to can get to the mechanism from the inside cargo area too.

SMJ will probably give you a much better pointer.

It is the hatch, the glass works fine except I still need to install the lift cylinders I bought.

I have the hatch inner trim off already and can get to the mechanism. Hard to see the backside where the lock is but it looks like everything moves bit the hook for the latch. I don't want to break it off but I will if I have to since I already have a new one. Maybe I'll try the air hammer
