Knocking noise from AC compressor

Not sure if this should be on this forum but here goes.
When I use my Aircon, after a few minutes I'll get a knocking noise, maybe 15 -20 bangs from the back of the glove box. This stops, doesn't seem to affect its performance but, once I've stopped the car, after a while it happens again. Any clues? Where should I be looking? Thanks
