Titanium skid plates

Just wondering if any have done up measurements for 05+ PF skid plates. As most of these are relatively flat sheets with minimal bends I was thinking that some custom cut titanium sheeting might work.

Amanda over at the Tico Titanium sales desk says a lot of her orders for custom cuts are either for offroad truck or atv skid plates, the common size asked for is 1/8 inch - 11 guage and the price is $30 per pound, so at about 3 pounds per square foot for 11 guage the gas tank would probably cost something around $200 or less and some work to build brackets and install the guard.

In terms of strength factor 1/8 inch titanium looks to be about the same as 1/4 to 3/16 inch common aluminum alloys and about the same as 1/8 inch stainless steel at half the weight with the similar upside of no corrosion.

Unfortunately the local scrap yards don't have titanium sheet product but lots of bar stock of various diameters for some reason, which might work for rocker panel guards and rear bumper guards.

If scrap titanium sheet could be found locally the prices for the various titanium skid plates needed could be brought down to somewhere in the $100 - $150 each diy range I think. :|
