removed running boards

pretty easy. unbolt the running board from the mounts first (6 bolts per side), and then remove the mounts from the frame (6 nuts per side). i learned it the hard way though, i tried to just take off the mount and board at the same time (by just doing the nuts on the frame), but i couldn't get the board to unseat due to it hitting the body/etc. so yeah, just undo the board first, then the mounts.

and then whalla, no more boards!

Smart move. Dumping the boards was the first mod I did. Aside from being absolutely no use off road, they were incredibly annoying. They were too short to use as a step getting in, and they were too fat while getting out. My girlfriend and I used to bitch up a storm every time we exited the vehicle & had to negotiate over that stupid step. I will admit they came in handy for tackling roof loads, but sliders do the same thing & they don't get in the way. Are you going to replace them with anything, or just leave them off?

yeah i'm not sure why i didn't do this sooner. while the wife did use them to get in/out, she didn't -have- to. and yeah they do make taking on/off my roof rack easier, but it's fine without. btw, i generally don't run my roof rack all the time because it costs me ~1 mpg.

as for putting something else there, i eventually will. i just drained my savings doing 5 tires and a bullydog (oh yeah, need to post about that). gotta wait a couple months before i can get anything else.

i was thinking about those supersliders....but didn't you say you also have to add bolts to the body or something? if it's along the inside where the factory mounts are i don't mind that, but if it's anything outside facing i dunno that i'm down for that.

Yes, the supersliders I have from Rocky Road are a bit different from the rest in that they bolt up to the factory holes on the frame (easy), but they also require a few bolts through the very lower part of the body. The only thing I didn't like about that was the stock bolts that Rocky Road used on mine started rusting immediately, so I replaced all the bolts with stainless steel. I know there are a few other options for sliders & all of those bolt to the frame only.

I will remove the side steps the second I get my Super Sliders. The only use I have for them is washing the roof so I still need something until then.

With adding the lift I need the running boards to get bikes, kayaks, and skis off the roof. I haven't looked at sliders yet and mounting them up to stock holes would be the only way I would consider them.

If you guys are all taking the running boards off would any of you be interested in selling them? I have been meaning to pick some up.

I am in, if there is a group buy for the Rocky-Road Rock/Super Sliders. I was going to order them this weekend. I will hold off, if others are interested. I can contact them and see if they would offer a bulk buy and how many orders would be needed to get a discount.

MoDobbs, If we end up getting a group buys on sliders, I'd sell you my running boards for sure.
