I thought about where to put a hi-lift jack where it could be easily accessible.
I probably won't carry it all the time, because even with the suspension lift, the stock jack still works good enough. But would be good to have on occasion.

So I measured the rear and asked Santa for the 48" version. I then found some generic mounts that Jeep owners use on their bumpers and ordered some.



So my install team (father-in-law and oldest son) measured and drilled.



We were able to utilize the aluminum bracket to carry some of the weight.




And after 20 mins, the end result's not too shabby!

Looks nice. Got a couple of unrelated questions. How did you mount your fire extinguisher? I'm considered installing one in that same spot. Aslo, where did you get shackle for your hitch? Did it come black or did you paint it?

Looks great.. interested in how you mounted the fire extinguisher too.

The hitch mount shackle is made by WARN and it came black. I picked it up at the local 4WheelParts Store.

The fire extinguisher came with a plastic mounting bracket and is simply mounted by a single short, stubby wood screw.
The plastic is thick enough there for it to grab on to. It's been there for over a year and hasn't budged from that corner!

UPDATE:
When I was driving I could hear the jack rattling around a bit on bumps.
Then I realized the whole pop out was moving up and down and not just the jack.
So I strapped down both sides using the tie-downs and now there's no movement at all!

I recently just bought a hi-lift (generic model) and I am not sure if it is going to work for its intended purpose. I can't find any points on the frame where I can get the jack in because everything is plastic. Have you used it at all since you got it? Just wondering where I can use it on the body of the vehicle.

Take off those side steps and put on some real rock-sliders that you can jack off of...

Any suggestions on rock sliders?

Cool. I like your idea of having a mount system inside the cargo area. That is definitely a good alternative if someone don't have a roof rack.

Unless you off-road frequently and actually use this jack, this mounting location is a bit inconvenient moving things in and out of the trunk area during normal vehicle use.

So to answer some questions:

I've had this in for 6 months. I don't usually carry the jack unless I absolutely need to. So really, the 2 mounting brackets haven't been an issue at all as far as putting stuff back there.

Hi-Lift sells a lift-mate that attaches to the jack and can lift the wheel up on one side attached by 2 points. Helps with our plastic sides.

I do have a roof rack, but the reason I choose this location instead, was logistically, the roof was harder to get to. The jack has some weight to it and to get it up on the roof meant I had to use the side steps and if they were slippery at all (which could happen if your standing in mud), I could easily see the jack going through a window.

Besides, I also want to retain the stock look of the truck as much as possible.
