What do you guys think about cutting something like this out of a big piece of heavy c channel?

I think the stock tow hook is just fine. How were you thinking of mounting those units?

I don't have a tow hook, we have terrible winters here in Alberta and it would be nice to have somewhere easy to hook onto.

And I would be using some grade 8 bolts

They are made for the r51 just go exactly where the tow hook should go

What size bolts are used to mount the stock tow hook?

Not sure, I ordered my bolts from courtesy, and received the hook free from some fella on the Frontier Forum. IIRC, the hook is around 40 USD also from Courtesy and bolts are about 8$ total for (x2).

Where did you find those? Good to know we have option.s

same here on getting it from courtesy.

and keep in mind you can actually add a tow hook on both sides in the front (they mirror each others location on the front), although you'd have to cut the plastic bottom fender (?) piece in order to add it.

So I started doodling on the steel so you can get a idea of what I mean and the steel I have.

I was also thinking of not putting a hole in the steel, making it as short as possible and attaching an aftermarket tow hook to it like this one.

I like the OEM style better.

This is what I intend to copy, just imagine it without the hole in it and a tow hook like above bolted to it.

The one they shipped me was oem style. I was surprised when I saw it. Perhaps they should update their pictures

They're bad at that. Really bad. but, it's all we've got.

What was the price on it? same PN?

It was the $45 list price. Plus shipping. I should have just gone to the dealership and saved the money on the shipping. I don't know the part # offhand and I'm sure I don't have the packing slip either. I just ordered the one that was listed if that helps
