Abnormal brake pad wear?

Does anyone here have experience with EBC yellow stuff brake pads? I did the V8 brake upgrade a few years ago, and initially used some Raybestos ceramic pads. I splurged on the EBC yellow stuff pads and smooth rotors this time. The brake performance is definitely improved with these pads, though they do put off a ton of brake dust. After just under 5K miles, the friction material is already down to between 5-7mm, which was surprising to see. At this point, if I get 10K miles out of them, I will be surprised. Kinda shocking for a premium brand. This was with normal driving and towing my camper a couple times. Is this normal wear for this type of pad? I understand there is a trade-off for longevity vs. performance, but for the cost ($90), these pads don’t seem worth it at the moment.

Although not the EBC pads, I did perform a V8 brake upgrade and had a lot of dust and pad wear using Brembo.
I decided to do a full around inspection.
I found one of my rears calipers were frozen. After repairs the brake dust reduced and my pad wear improved significantly on the fronts.
Might be worth a check.

The Yellow Stuff EBC pads are pretty aggressive, create a lot of wheel dust and they wear out pretty fast, typically around 15-20,000 miles. I think the Green Stuff pads would be a better option in the EBC product line or Power Stop Z36 Severe Duty Truck & Tow.

After 9,000 miles, the yellow stuff pads were toast. I ended up going with a set of the green stuff pads. The initial bite seems just as strong as the yellow stuff pads. We’ll see how they last. I had to take everything apart anyway, as both outer CV boots and steering rack bellows dried out and tore apart. I had replaced these only a few years ago when I rebuilt the entire front end, and I was pretty surprised how quickly they dried out.

For Yellow Stuff, given their performance-oriented design and your towing, it’s within the realm of expectation, though perhaps at the faster end. The trade-off you mentioned longevity vs. performance is exactly what’s at play here
