Bolt pattern / buying used wheels

Ok so how is the best way to determine if a wheel will fit a 2012 PF if the person selling doesn't know the bolt pattern, offset, ect?
I have seen some really nice rims on CL for cheap and there are several 6 lug options but most of these knuckleheads just tell you what they came off of and say they "should fit ______". I don't want to buy a set of wheels that won't fit, or make driving dangerous. This is just for cosmetic purposes and not offloading if that makes a difference. Please help!
