Gas Lid

Hi, anyone have any issues with gas compartment lid not staying closed? I have a 2005 OR.

is it not staying closed, or not locking?
there is a steel "spring clip" whose tension keeps the door closed

It's not staying closed which deters it from locking. I constantly have to make sure the lid is closed everytime I get out of the truck. The only way I can get it to stay closed is if I lock the doors when I get in. What's this "spring clip" about?
