The Nissan Path

Hi,

Tried searching but came up with nothing. The model is 12 years old so not as easy to find information.

Looking at purchasing a first year 3rd gen Nissan Pathfinder (2005) in 4x4.

What is the difference between the SE Sport Utility 4X4 and the SE "OFF ROAD" Sport Utility 4X4?

Aside from the "OFF ROAD" badge what is the difference in upgrades?

Are there any MECHANICAL differences? Is it all cosmetic?

Would hate to buy a regular 4X4 model and later find out the 4X4 OFF ROAD model has some mechanical upgrade I want.

The OR has these features:
"Pathfinder lineup is headlined by the new SE Off-Road 4x4, which comes standard with a two-speed transfer case, hill-descent control, hill-start assist, a four-wheel limited-slip system, 265/75R-16 BFGoodrich tires, Rancho shocks, and 9.2 inches of ground clearance. Nissan engineers claim that compared with the previous Pathfinder, and even the current Xterra, the new ute is superior off-road. We have no reason to doubt them; we had little difficulty traversing a challenging 1.2-mile off-road course replete with boulders, deep ruts, and steep inclines."

The Off-Road Pathfinder has additional skid plates (under the engine, the transmission and under the fuel tank), the Rancho shocks which aren't really much better than the stock units, different tire size and the big difference: hill decent control and hill assist.

So to summarize the OffRoad Trim adds a few features.
Most of which are not huge however the skid plates are pretty cool.

I think the biggest difference in the Hill Decent Control and Hill Start Assist, which are difficult to add onto a non-OR model if you want them. The factory skid plates are pretty then and not the best as far as skid plates go, but they can be purchased separately and easily added to non-OR models, if you want them. I put them onto my LE.

the hill-descent control is an especially nice feature, and the additional skid plates have come in handy as well
