The Nissan Path

Hey guys.

Wife uses the Pathfinder to take the kids to school, shopping and work.

Finally got around to spreadsheeting all my fuel usage and found something interesting.

over the last 5000 km, the computer reads between high 16.9 L/ 100 to as high as 18.1 L/100 km. I reset between fill ups.

I spread sheeted everything since mid November to today. 19.22 L/100K.

Even my last fillup read 17.6 on the computer and calculated it is 19.82.

Im quite surprised at the discrepancy. By no means did I expect them to be equal, but 2.2 L/100K is kinds bogus.

Also its a cold climate Im in, but even Fuelly.com puts me at the VERY HIGHEST end of the fuel consumption scale.

75% of my travels are in the city.

There is one outlier trip where it was 75% highway and that ended up being a 15.9 L/100 fill.

Truck is great, good acceleration, power and synthetic oil changes on time and we use the 4x4 sparingly. Yes there is some added warm up in the morning now that its winter.


Is it just a PIG in city driving?

Its a full size body-on-frame truck with a 4.0L engine.

When I was in College that 4.0 L with 266 hp were only found on Luxury cars or dedicated tow machines.

In town there will never be good or even average milage.

I drive in town and my milage is no better, lots of short trips. Truck doesnt even fully warm up (I take it once or twice a week on a hard hiway run to make sure its fully warmed up and any condensed gas+water is boiled out of motor oil)

Yes, it's a bit of a pig for short runs and city driving. However, it does get pretty good mileage on long, steady, highway and interstate runs. I also find using the cruise control as much as possible and having a steady foot on the gas pedal helps the mileage a lot, but that's hard to employ for city driving.
