Gas valve disappeared.

Hey all, the valve that moves out of the way when I'm placing the gas nozzle into my Pathfinder has broken off and disappeared (into the tank, I'm supposing). I'm getting a loose gas cap warning.

Is this a simple fix? I can't find any YouTube vids or really anything about this online. Feels like I ought to be able to do this at home and I've got good tools.

The part you need is linked below. The part number is 172219CE0A. When I looked it up, it was ~$80.

It is not very difficult to install. Should take ~30 minutes or so. Its a little tight in there, but you shouldn't have too much difficulty. Remove the wheel on the driver side for much better access.

By that schematic you are totally correct! Thanks, I'll order one someplace and figure it out. Finding time to do it is the hard part.

I just did my brakes so I'm kind of excited to try this too.

Are you referring to the metal flap that covers the hole that the gas nozzle inserts into? If so, it didn't fall into the tank; there isn't one. There's just an open hole when you remove the cap. Even if there was one, it wouldn't cause a loose gas cap code. You might want to look elsewhere for the cause of your problem, such as a stuck open EVAP canister vent valve or a disconnected hose.
