The Nissan Path

Hi,
I have 186K on my 2005. It rattles on startup but goes away when warm. I parked it to fix.

I see kits on Amazon but I wonder about the quality? Also, given the mileage and I plan on keeping it, should I get a more comprehensive kit?

I have the special tools now and will get a FSM I think there's a TSB about it as well.

I would go OEM for the parts. They were redesigned in the later years for the 4.0 so this issue doesn't happen. It'll cost you a little more, but it'll also prevent you from doing it again in case the parts are sub-par.

Technically, they didn't redesign the parts so much as correct the problem, which was improperly stamped links due to worn tooling. You can't go wrong with genuine Nissan, however, a kit from a reputable name brand like Cloyes or TRW should work out fine. One thing to keep in mind is that if you get a kit with complete tensioners, as opposed to just the tensioner faces per the Nissan TSB repair procedure, you will have to removed the rear timing cover, as well, if you plan to replace the whole tensioner because of the way it's bolted. Or, you could carefully pull the tensioner faces off of the new tensioners.
