have a 2005 SE. let it stand unused for too long, so the battery died and i cannot unlock doors with the remote. should i be able to open the driver door by using the key in the keyhole? i am asking because i am not having any luck with this approach. are there any other options? thanks!

Yes, you should be able to use the key for the keyhole. Otherwise, time to have a locksmith come out. If you're not the original owner, maybe one of the previous owners changed out the lock and didn't get a key to go with it?

yes the ignition key should work fine in the physical lock.
if it doesn't something is wrong with the lock.

tried both keys, and neither did the trick. i am able to rotate them in the clockwise direction, which i recall is the unlock position, yet the doors stays locked. interesting point: i am not able to rotate it counterclockwise. should that be the case? sorry for being annoying, but i am literally grasping for straws at this point.

also, i am the original owner and all the keys and locks are original as well.

I would just call a roadside assistance group and have them open it for you.

If your own keys do not open the vehicle, you don't have many options.

Here's neat way to figure this out....

Yes clockwise should unlock and counter clockwise should lock. I'm wondering if the linkage has come off inside the door. Do you hear any kind of mechanical movement in the door when you turn the key? You should hear a "clunk" inside the door as you move the linkage.

Nothing worse then not being able to get in to your car.
I really miss having two sets of tumblers on both front doors. This is why, twice a year, minimum I put a bit of lubrication in there and move the assembly back and forth.

Keep us posted!!!
