The Nissan Path

My son is going off to college and taking my ford truck and one of my techs (the one with a full size truck) is moving on. I'm not going to have ready access to a truck anymore and my company doesn't have room to store a trailer so I think I am going to have to buy a truck. I bought the PF because it would carry a lot and 6ft ladder fits inside nicely but now we use more 8ft ladders carry a lot more that we did.

I was thinking of getting a Tacoma, any one have input on those?

Also, my PF is a 2010 SE V6 4x2, 43k miles, silver new BFG Rugged Terrain tires. Not a scratch on it. It's garaged at night and parked in the shade during the day. I'm in Louisiana and am asking $19K.

Reliability-wise, they are very good. The seats aren't very comfortable and they ride like a rock. I think the Frontier is a lot more comfortable and almost as reliable.

I had a Taco for a few years as a work truck daily driver. I drove all over the NYC metro area and the 5 boroughs. Lets just say she took quite a beating and held up pretty well. She moved along pretty well, gas milage was on par with the V6 Pathy.

Yeah, my 04 got 20 MPG on the highway and that was a base 4X4 with a 2.7L 4-cyl. and manual trans. My 06 Pathy gets 21 on a long highway run, but the mileage suffers driving around town. The Toyota was just too small with the bench seat and standard cab and bounce my fat bones all over the place!

The thing that drives me nuts about the taco is the position your legs are in when seated. They basically stick out at a 90 degree angle. Being a taller guy, I didn't like this at all. The 4-runner has the same issue for me. But the Nissan products don't. They allow you to sit normally.

I had a '95.5 Tacoma (first year it was called Tacoma) 4x4 with 2.7L 5-speed and something like 2.90 gears. It was ok on power.....not even close to a V6 PF but for 1995 power it wasn't horrible. I averaged 24mpg with that truck and could get 26 on longer highway drives. Phenomenal for a 4x4 back then....and today to some degree. In '97 they switched the gears to much lower 3.50's and the mileage fell through the floor and it made no sense to buy the 4cyl.

I don't know anything about the new ones. I looked at them a bit before I bought the PF but the seating was horrible as mentioned above. I did have a Tundra for awhile and even the seats in that were mediocre at best.

My experience...there's very little up-front or operating cost difference between modern full-size and small/mid size trucks. But there's a huge difference in size/usefulness. Not too many people buy a big truck and wish for something smaller. But you see it going the other way quite a bit.
