2.5l Glowplugs

Hi All,

First time here so be gentle with me.....

When I bought the PF over a year ago they replaced the glowplugs because of a P0380 error. The car had suffered a flat battery when the cleaners had the doors open and radio on while cleaning it. I didn't think these two things were connected.

A couple of days ago while trying to fix a heater problem the battery went flat again. Way too quick. So I got a new battery and fitted it. When I started it up I got a P0380 error. It was hard to cold start as well.

Thinking that the glowplugs had been changed recently and the glowplug relay is just behind the battery I reseated the connector. This made little difference and the check engine light still came on. In the last few days the check engine light comes on as soon as I have reset it and try to start the car. So I ordered and fitted a new relay. This made no difference.

I have just taken my glowplugs out and they are all open circuit!

They are 4.5v glowplugs could it be that when the battery gets low the ECU gets confused and they get 12v?

Two sets of glowplugs dead when two batteries get low seems too much of a coincidence.....

Are we talking about an R52 Pathfinder here? Aren't glow plugs only for diesels? :?:

Yep.... It's a 2013 R52 2.5l Diesel.

WOW! I didn't realize that Nissan made an R52 Pathfinder! Where are they sold? Can you give us some specs?

Yes, the R52 can be had with the YD25DDTi diesel engine. I know they are making some of them in St. Petersburg, Russia. I'm not sure if they are making them anywhere else?

I'd like to learn more about that. A diesel R52 Pathfinder would certainly tick a lot of boxes for many people.

Mine is a 2013. In the UK they were only sold with diesels and only until 2014.

As an update......

The glow plugs arrived this morning. They all read 0.5ohms. All were fitted and I no longer have a Check Engine Light on.

So it would appear that trying to start the engine with a low battery kills the 4.5v glow plugs!

Two low batteries, two sets of glow plugs in two years....too much of a coincidence!

Interesting! BTW, what trim level is your Pathfinder? Does it use the US-spec trims S, SV, SL, etc. or the Australian levels ST, ST-L, Ti?

Also, does your vehicle look like the one in this eBay post?

I'm just trying to understand if Nissan continued to manufacture the R51 for the UK market beyond 2012 or if they truly made an R52 diesel.

Yep...it looks like the one in the advert.

I have a Tekna as we only get a Tekna and Aventura trim models in the UK. The Tekna has the leather seats, power mirrors, rear heating/ac etc.

As far as I know up to 2012 the Pathfinder in the UK had Euro 4 engines. From 2012ish they got the Euro 5 engine....more economy, less emissions.

The one in the ad is an R51..
It appears the R51 was built for the European market past 2012 model year :D

All very strange as the body is of a R51 but the engine parts I need are for an R52.

Looks like we got a hybrid.......

For example, my glow plugs are 4,5v. The glow plugs for an R51 are 11v.

The Sunday Times driving correspondent wrote an article that said 'In 2012, the fourth generation (codenamed R52) Pathfinder was launched but Nissan withdrew the car from Europe in 2014; it is currently only available to buy new in North America, Africa, Australia, South Korea and the Middle East.'

So it would appear we got an R52 in an R51 body......
