Why do the color options suck so bad?

Wife and I aren't sold on any of them. We've ruled out four or five of them and are left with a lot of bad options.

Desert Sand looked flat and non-metallic in person. Cayenne is too much of a flat red and not deep or dark enough as well.

Mocha Stone may be the least bad option.

Historically, has Nissan changed the colors as the years go on?

Dark Slate seems the best option, and by 'best' i mean easier on the eyes than the others.

still nothing beats the R51 storm grey 8)

Agreed. Slate is in the final three.

I've noticed color choices seem to really be dwindling on newer cars. Wife's newest car had six colors to pick from....two less than the PF. Metallic seems to be far less common and extra cost on a lot of vehicles. Slate isn't bad...never been a fan of the light browns at all. Dessert Sand is what I call old man tan.

TO me the 2013 design is fugly.
I hate when they take a good thing SUV and try to make it look more like a minivan.

I have to say yes to black, specialy when you get rid of all the chrome moldings, roof rack, paint all the chrome in back , and poly powdercoat the oem rims in mirror black :D only chrome left are the front and rear nissan round signs, front back and wheels, all other letters are gone as well. thats how I like the look.

We have a Silver color, 2012 Silver edition PF. Didn't think I care much for the color at first but really like it now. Living in the desert it's a great color, stays cooler and doesn't show the dust as much as black or white which were the only other colors the dealer had on the lot at the time we bought the car.

Yup, gray, silver are easy collors to maintain, my kids car is gray and dont have to wash it as much... Dont get me wrong. I love the black but its the hardest collor to maintain. you make it all nice and shiny and an hour later RRRR

The exterior colours available for the 2013 are...
Super Black
Desert Sand
Mocha Stone
Cayenne Red
Brilliant Silver
Moonlight White
Artic Blue Metallic
Dark Slate
The interior colours are...
Almond
Charcoal

My choices would be the Super Black, Dark Slate and the Mocha Stone with the Charcoal interior. The silver is the easiest to look after and black is hardest. Silver does not show the scratches or dirt nearly as much but when you wash a darker colour, it really pops. Charcoal or dark slate is one of my favourites but my last two cars where charcoal and I wanted a change. I don't mind the extra work, to keep the black clean and looking nice.

Took my boys to one of those Chuck E Cheese type places on Black Friday while their Mom and Grandma were shopping. While the boys were playing, I checked inventory at Every Single Nissan Dealer in Pittsburgh, Washington PA, Wheeling WV, Columbus OH and Indianapolis. Not one had a Pathfinder in Mocha Stone, let alone a Platinum Premium. NOT ONE.

I'm about to move on...

The brochure has a picture of the Mocha Stone Platinum Pathfinder, it looks quite nice. Wouldn't mind seeing one in person. Since the model year is so new and just showing up at the dealers, hopefully you can find what you are looking for.

Revisiting this thread.

We've had several dealers looking for a Mocha Stone since they came out. We dropped by a local dealer today to have them look at our trade and they had a white Platinum Premium.

I didn't realize that it was a pearl white. Wife liked it and we brought it home.

I'd go with the 2012 model. It's the last year of a great design and all the kinks, for the most part, have been worked out. I must say I am very disappointed on Nissan's design decisions of the 2013 model. I just hope in the next 4 years, by 2017, they come up with an actual truck and not mock-murano.
