88' Pathfinder that when I turn over the ignition completely it does not engage, but if I turned back the key back slightly from the fully turned over position it engages and starts. This method has been working for awhile, but now it doesn't want to start in any position. Trying to find out if whole ignition needs replaced, or if it could be a switch or something else? Any insight is very appreciated.

Sounds like your switch is bad. You can try and find one from a junkyard. It sounds like the internals were getting loose for a while. Not much you can do to fix it.
