transmission shifting problem

I have a 94 pathfinder XE. Automatic. sometimes I start the car, put it in drive and it starts out in high gear...i have to turn the engine off and then put it in D and it starts normal in low and shifts normally. what would cause that?

Mine does this too. I have been working on this issue for over a year.
Does you temp gauge work?
Have you bypassed the stock amps?
Does your speedo bounce some of the time when this happens?

Fail safe mode allows the transmission to drive in high gear only, so, I would check for transmission trouble codes. The procedure is in the factory service manual.
