starting problem

on the girlfriends '92, it will start only when it feels like. Lots of battery juice, blower fan runs fine, headlites are bright. When it wants to start, it turns over just fine. But when it doesn't want to start, all it does is 'click' down at the starter. Which tells me juice is getting there. The connections seem good.
I bought another starter for it, but before I put it on, would just like some experienced input on this. Maybe it's some other kinda common problem.

Also, if it comes down to changing the starter, how does it come out? All-data says to take it out the wheel well, after taking out the inner fender. But I can't see how the inner fender comes out, without taking the side of the car off!! Any tricks of the trade would be helpful.

I slid mine straight out the front, I can't see how it would come out of the wheel well without taking alot of other things out, ie. fuel lines, etc...
