Getting desperate, problem persists and not getting any better. have replaced all usual suspects, lately the EGR valve, no change, only happens after vehicle warms up. Doesn't stall, pops and stumbles under load and acceleration on the highway is hampered(not sure why), No engine light showing on dash, will bad knock sensor kick in the engine warning light? How about EGR temperature sensor, cannot believe this is the problem as I bypassed the EGR for a week or so and vehicle appeared to run a little better so I installed a new one, now it is as bad as ever. Desperate for ideas as I am starting to hate this vehicle.

Look and see if your spark plug wires are good. I had a break in my wire right inside the rubber boot and it was sparking against the cylinder head, causing those symptoms.

And yes, a bad knock sensor will cause the EFI.

What "usual suspects" have you replaced. I don't know where to suggest next without knowing.

I had the same problem!! It turned out to be the o2 sensor. It's located at the "Y" piece where the two exhaust pipes join. (it screws into the exhaust pipe and has wires which lead up to the engine bay).
You can buy them from any auto parts dealer and it should cost between $90-$140 for good quality (Bosch). Available on ebay too by memory.

To replace...
locate where it plugs into in the engine bay (wiggle the wire from underneath and have a 2nd person confirm from above).
Unplug it first.
Unscrew from exhaust and tie rope to one end. pull the cable through so the rope can pull the new cable back into place and do so.

Avoid twisting and bending the cable. Screw the metal end into the exhaust first before plugging it in.

Be sure to carefully secure any loose cables neatly.

Good luck!
