I need to know how to remove a radio antenna from a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder.

Mine broke and I need to buy a new one and install it, but first, I need to remove the broke one.

I have been in no hurry to do this, as I listen to music off a USB dongle or through bluetooth on my cell phone (My car stereo has bluetooth and a USB connection).

But the time has finally come to replace it.

Is it manual or power antennae? If it's power, do you need to replace just the antennae mast or the entire motor assy?

According to the spec sheet (Yes it came with the original spec sheet when I bought it ), it makes no mention of a powered antenna, so I am assuming it's manual.

Was just looking to replace it with a generic screw in type, if it will take it.

If the threaded part of the old mast is broken off in the base, you may be able to get a dental pick or small, pointed object and unscrew it. Otherwise, a small, reverse drill bit and a reversable drill is the next best thing. If you get the threaded end out, you can just get a replacement antennae rod. If you have to replace the base, you will need to remove the glove box and the metal panel behind it. You may want to remove the passenger, front wheel for clearance. If there's a mudflap, remove that and enough screws out of the rear half of the inner fenderwell so that you can move it out of your way and gain access to the antennae. You will need to locate the antennae cable behind the glove box and unplug it. Tie a string to it so that it well help you pull the new cable through, later. From the outside, take the screws out of the antennae base and pull out the grommet from under the fender where the cable passes through, into the cab. Pull the cable through with the string and remove the base. Install the new base in reverse order. Tie the string onto the new cable to help you pull it through the cab. Thread the new antennae rod into the base and tighten.

Not going to change the antenna now.

Apparently, I am able to receive nearly all the radio stations I listen to, even with most of the antenna gone.

I think I must have had my stereo tuned into AM stations instead of FM,

But it's working again, so there is really no need to change out the antenna.

You probably have a diversity antennae...one of the antennaes being a small wire in the windshield, which could be where you're picking up your signal.
