After listening to the noise that sounded like the rear end was getting ready to go through the roof I climbed under and could clearly see the shock bushing were all but gone. Replaced the shocks and the only sound is the whirr of the goodyear 31's Stable and smooth, once again..

What brand shocks? How long it take to do?

I put Monroe 37158 on it. It takes longer to lift, put jackstands under and remove the tires than it does to swap the shocks. 2 bolts each that are easy to get to. Leave the plastic factory compression keeper on the shock, put some anti-seize on the upper stud slide the shock on and run the nut on a few threads. Get a pair of wire cutters. "Aim" the bottom of the shock at the lower mount and cut the strap. The shock will extend and settle in the mount. Attach the lower bolt (anti-seize again)and nut. Tighten them both up.
It is said you should probably change the struts and shocks at the same time. After riding with the new (quiet) rears, I quickly heard the occasional thumping from the fronts .. So, I tend to agree, they should all go at the same time. The previous owner said he replaced them not too long ago....(SenSen brand). They didn't look too old but I'm not impressed with the rubber they use for the bushings

What year is your pathfinder?

1998. As we speak, I'm taking a break from the front struts. The left is all done, just have the right to do. Coil spring compressors are a pia!

Let me know about your experience with Monroe 37158.
I just replaced my front struts and realized I need to replace the rear shocks. I was thinking about buying KYB brand but I am still looking around.
One reviewer gave a bad review to the Monroe, he said they do not last that long. They come with lifetime warranty so he replaced the rear shocks three times in a nine months span. In the end he decided to go with KYB.

I have an 03 pathfinder with 86K miles.

Yikes! 3x?! The install was almost stupid easy (it will be that way with any brand though). So far the Monroes are perfect. The rear is quiet and stable. They have taken the "dancing" away that was very noticeable when hitting potholes and ruts at speed. I will say that I like the bushings better than the SenSens. The Monroes are solid where the SenSens were a pressed in unit with voids between the rubber and the exterior metal ring. It allowed more flex and areas for deterioration.

Where did you buy the Monroe shocks for your truck?

I do not think Autozone sells them..

My local Advance Auto had them in stock.

I would recommend KYB Gas-a-justs or Bilsteins.
