I am tired of getting bad information in other forums. I need to replace the two front roof rack pads, 1 left, 1 right, on my 04 Pathy. some people tell me that they bolt through the roof, others say its bolted to a riveted bracket in the channel. would someone with first hand knowledge that knows how they attach to the roof please tell me how to replace these ?
there are 6 pads or seals as Nissan calls them 3 on either side of the vehicle that the roof rails bolt onto.I cannot find a decent picture of the assembly of these parts.I have a picture of the part in question however I am new to the forum and have not quite figured out how to post pictures Thank you in advance for all of the knowledgeable advice and answers

Are they the exact same as a 97,98 ?
To post pics just you just need a host site (photobucket or the like). Upload the pic to your account on that site and simply copy the url of the specific picture and paste it in your mesg.

They are the same as a 97-on. I have a donor vehicle that has the fronts partially exposed. It looks as though the torx screws just thread into a reinforcing strip. If you can wait I will take them off when I get a chance to make sure, but I seriously doubt there is a moveable nut on the underside.
From the looks of this they thread into a reinforcing/attaching strip

I did loosen the torx bolts all the way. They now will not tighten up or come out. I am stumped.

Yea, it sure looks that way for 73162. I have seen vehicles with no racks but don't they still have a rubber trim piece that runs down the roof? I mean I have never seen a completely smooth top. Perhaps it has to with the trim only since the box specifically says except f/roof rack.

I ordered 73937 , roof pad yesterday. parts man said that there were 2 in the whole country left. he was no help on the seal. I did make an appointment with the body shop 2 have the two seals replaced. They had no idea how they attach as well but will find out when they get into it. parts man said that looking at the diagram that the 2002 and below attached differently than the 2004 models. Same part number but attached to the roof differently. That sure is strange

Definitely strange. Why did yours need replacing? Were they leaking?

I bought this 04 used. Evidently, the roof was repainted sometime in its life and the roof rack was removed and reinstalled. I dont like the SE rack thats on it. Big bulky side rails, big ugly oval crossbars and a big wind deflector. The LE model is sleeker and more aero. It doesnt have the carrying capacity of the SE but but it looks better IMHO. So, Im selling the total SE rack and ebay. But Im getting ahead of myself... When the rack was reinstalled. the two front screw holes, on the mounts that hold the roof rails on, on both sides were screwed up. Its weird. Its like they just got shoved down towards the roof. The screws that were in there when I took it off were just there. Not screwed in holding anything down, So, to make it right, I need to replace the mounts which hopefully will come with a seal, probably some self adhesive backed closed cell foam. I have all the components of the LE rack ordered or know where to get them. I just need time off from work to find out how the damn mounts attach to the roof...
